Rogue Drone Operators

We heard of a drone flying over Macclesfield town centre yesterday. Apparently it flew across several busy streets and then passed over the Manchester-London railway tracks. Highly dangerous, highly illegal. And bad for our business.

There are no doubt rogue elements in every industry, but for us, because of the high profile media coverage of drones over airports, drones carrying drugs to prisons, and issues of public safety and privacy, these rogue drone operators, or RDOs, really should be brought to heel.

An important point for our customer base is that these drones are flying illegally and that there could be a negative legal impact for businesses employing them. Plus it can be assumed that as these RDOs will not have the same experience, knowledge and training as bona fide CAA approved pilots, accidents or drone failures can lead to delays or cancellations of jobs. And that’s money down the drain.

Who knows what the answer is? Law enforcement? Education? Stop and capture techniques? On-board software? A mix of all of these?

Whatever, we all need to remain vigilant.

 Just saying.
